The Spring Festival party will be held at White Plains High School this Sunday from 12:30PM to 4:30PM. Ticket ($8 per person) can be purchased at entrance of the Cafeteria. To ensure proper amount of food reservation, please purchase ticket by 11:00AM. PTA has organized fun and fascinating activities for the children. The school will distribute a Chinese New Year red bag to every child this Sunday. Please wear traditional Chinese clothing if possible.

New Technology Classes for the Spring Semester Start This Sunday at Classroom B123:

穿唐装,提灯笼,游行华夏闹元宵。华夏大纽约元宵游行(02/24)和花灯节(03/03):

二月二十四日是农历正月十五,中国传统的元宵节,又称为“上元节”(the Lantern Festival)。这是春节之后的第一个重要节日。为庆祝中国的这一传统节日,家长会将在二月二十四日举办唐装日/华灯游行。游行将于11:15am 开始,起始于B楼的南侧门,绕行C楼回廊。学前班至三年级学生将以班为单位参加。希望小朋友们穿上中国传统服装参加游行。其他年级的学生可自愿、自由加入游行。在游行终点,每一个参加游行的同学都会得到一个礼品红包。希望家长能够为孩子准备游行用灯笼,购买、学生自制皆可。为帮助孩子更多了解、参与这一节日,我们鼓励家长和孩子一起制作亲子灯笼。请点击这里参见参见元宵节历史和多种灯笼制作方法。请在自制灯笼上清楚标明学生姓名、班级,家长会将在在游行结束收集所有自制的灯笼,在三月三日华夏花灯节上按年龄组展出并评选优胜者。评分将参照以下四个方面:
1. 作品完整,做工细致;
2. 创意新颖,形式活泼;
3. 造型美观,材料环保;
4. 主题鲜明,情趣健康。
灯笼将在展出后交还本人。

HXGNY Lantern Parade(02/24) and Lantern Festival(03/03):

February 24, the fifteenth day after Chinese New Year, is the first major Chinese festival of the year, the Lantern Festival.  To celebrate this traditional holiday, the HXGNY PTA will organize a Chinese costume day/lantern parade on 02/24.  Students are encouraged to dress in traditional Chinese costumes.  The parade will start at the south gate of B building and go along the C building hallway. Pre-K to 3rd grade will walk with their classes. Other grades, on voluntary basis, are also welcome to join as individuals or groups.  Chinese goodie bags will be given out at the exit point.  All children are expected to come to the parade with a lantern, either purchased or made at home.  To promote children’s involvement, we encourage parents to make the lantern with your child.  Please click here for Lantern Festival History and tips on how to make lanterns.  For all homemade lanterns, please clearly write the student’s name and class name.  At the end of the parade, PTA will collect the homemade lanterns, which will be exhibited in the 03/03 HXGNY Lantern Competition.  The winners of each age group will receive a special award.  Lanterns will be returned after the exhibition.  The lanterns will be scored on the following aspects:
1. Completeness and workmanship
2. Novelty and liveliness of form
3. Shape of lantern and environmental friendliness of material
4. Theme

华夏大纽约中文学校(HXGNY)辩论赛选拔赛: 

为了迎接华夏中文学校的辩论赛(将于4/22/2013举行)华夏大纽约分校将在3/3/2013进行选拔赛。选拔赛将分两组进行,4-6年级为甲组,7年级以上为乙组。每位参赛者将作为一辩手进行三分钟陈述。辩手可以持有任一方(正方或反方)的观点,由辩手自己决定。各组的前六名优胜者将组成辩论队代表纽约分校参加总校的辩论赛。为了帮助参赛者准备论据和学习论证自己的论点,黄岳老师将围绕如何 准备3分钟陈述对参赛者进行一次集中指导和训练。

正方:学中文必须上中文学校;
反方:学中文不必上中文学校。

主讲人:廖家腾禅师。廖老师是一个非常有成就的禅师 ,他来自台湾,修禅十几年, 曾经帮助近两万人解除身心灵的疾苦。他不仅对传统的禅有深入的研究,同时也广泛涉猎量子物理学,天文学,心理学和医学.

Linda Wu, 数理经济学博士,首创华夏“禅修与健身”课,深受学员欢迎。2008 年开始学习禅修,深为禅之魅力所吸引。现为菩提禅修三级禅师。

Meditation has been capturing scientists’ fancy for decades. A large volume of studies has documented that meditation benefits human mind and body. What is a meditation state? Speakers: Teacher Liao is a highly accomplished Meditation Master. He had practiced meditation for dozens of years. He also has extensive interest in Quantum Physics, Astronomy, Psychology and Medical Science. He is currently retired and is a full-time volunteer at New York Bodhi Meditation Center.

Linda Wu, Started Bodhi Meditation in 2008 and was deeply attracted by the wisdom in Chan. She is currently level III Bodhi meditation instructor. She has a Ph. D in Mathematical Economics and is a CFA.

华夏大纽约春季教师培训recap:

华夏大纽约中文学校春季教师培训于2月3日下午在White Plains High School Cafeteria举行。校长林骏首先向老师们介绍了我校目前的运作情况以及春季学期的工作安排。主管安全的副校长刘运畴在会上介绍了学校关于安全工作的一些安排教育委员会主任兼董事尹永义向老师介绍了今年深化教学改革的工作。我校在语言课教学改革取得丰硕成果后,文化课成为下阶段教学改革的另一重点,将增加文化课老师培训,不断提高文化课课程设计和教学质量。陈敏副教务长介绍了本学年评估工作的具体安排,以HSK4级生字为出发点,对马立平,美洲华语和标准中文三套教材的生字进行了分析比较。常秀老师介绍了AP中文的教学内容和考试形式。专题报告结束后,李冰老师,徐自云老师,傅耘老师,Richard Zhang 等老师分享了自己在日常教学中的经验和体会。

此外,老师们结合自己孩子的AP中文考试经验作了进一步交流,高年级的老师们已经先行一步,结合教材特点,针对性地为衔接AP中文课程以及备考AP中文打好基础。学校将安排专题讲座,以便于老师和家长对AP中文作进一步了解(请点击这里参阅AP中文课程相关资料)。

Safety Reminder:

Please don’t drop off/pick up between the North Street entrance and parking lot entrance.  You can drive further ahead for drop off/pick up. Otherwise you will block the traffic.

Gyms News:

We will have only one gym (South Gym)  available till the end of March. The other gym will be used by WPHS. Please plan accordingly.

Per WPHS request, please do not keep any gym exit doors open throughout school sessions. Use only the door designated for HXGNY for entrance.

OCA-WHV: The 6th Rising Stars Concerts

Music: classical and contemporary works from the West and East.

Performers: Asian American musician from the ages from 8 to 18 who were selected via audition by a panel of judges. If you are a musician, please go to http://www.oca-whv.org and click on Rising Stars Program for application details. Application deadline is February 20th, 2013.

I Sing Beijing Concert – 我唱北京 • 我迎新春
