上周日教育讲座回顾 Recap of Last Sunday’s Education SeminarLast Sunday Dr.  Bonnie Liao gave a very lively  talk on “High EQ Parenting  #3 –  wholly accepting your not-so-perfect child “.   Her  stand-up comedian style gig was filled with wisdom and  funny puns such as “有一种伤害叫无微不至的爱, 有一种剥夺叫我都是为你好”, “静等花开”, “要补齐所有短处,还是要扬长避短”。 The captivating audience gave loud applause to the humorous lines which all carried insightful and powerful messages of avoiding common parenting traps.

Board Announcement on 2016 Principal Search

The board has authorized the nomination committee to start the 2016 Principal search process. The committee members include Dapeng Hu, Holly Huang, Jun Lin and Michael Wu. The nomination committee is to identify and nominate potential candidates, confirm candidates’ acceptance of the nomination, review candidates’ application materials, conduct interview and check references as necessary, and recommend all qualified candidates to the Board. The board will review all candidates and vote to select the Principal.

The Principal is a volunteer position. Below are the eligibility requirements and desired qualification:

•Must have integrity and be willing to voluntarily serve the school with passion and enthusiasm
•Must be committed to the long-term growth and development of HXGNY
•People with at least one year working experience with HXGNY admin team and with proven leadership skills are strongly preferred.

To apply, please email your name, qualification and a statement of plans and ideas on how to run the school to the board hxgnyboard@googlegroups.com, before March 12th. The qualified candidates will be required to give a presentation to the board.  Thank you.

CACA Essay Contest 3/5/2016 – NY/NJ Announcement

Chinese American Citizens Alliance (CACA) is holding a national-wide Essay Contest on March 5th, 2016, 1:00pm-3:00pm for high school students currently in 9-12th grade.

The essay contest is intended to foster creative thinking and self-expression and encourage an awareness of current local and world events. Top placing finishers receive cash scholarship towards their education endeavors.

Participants are asked to compose an essay in English not to exceed 500 words on a contemporary topic concerning the Chinese and Asian American communities. The essay topic is given at the time of the contest.

上海夏令营 Shanghai Summer Camp

为进一步促进海外华裔青少年对中国的了解,促进海内外青少年的沟通交流,弘扬中华文化,上海市人民政府侨务办公室将于2016年7月组织集文化性、知识性、趣味性于一体的夏令营活动,邀请世界各地的华裔青少年寻根中国,相约上海。

活动时间:2016年7月4日—17日(共计十四天,7月4日报道,7月17日离开)

营员要求:2004年12月31日前出生,身体健康,有一定中文基础,且有较强生活自理能力的海外华裔青少年。

关于费用:1.领队、营员在上海活动期间的费用,含住宿、用餐、交通、门票、学习、交流,旅游意外保险等由主办方承担 2.领队、营员的国际旅费、医疗费、个人费用自理。

活动须知:1.为保障、安全夏令营期间营员及领队的食宿、用餐、交通、参观游览等活动均由主办方统一安排,(2-3人一间,有空调,卫生热水洗浴等设施,24小时卫生保健老师值班)。2.主办方将免费提供统一制作的营服、营旗等,活动期间营员应自觉按要求着装和佩戴胸牌。3.上海侨办提供每团一次接送机安排。4.所有参加夏令营的营员及其监护人、领队都须签订“家长同意书”“营员须知”“领队须知”报到时,由领队统一交主办方留存。5.家长不参加夏令营活动,但欢迎观摩上海的闭营式活动。

午餐服务 Lunch service at B registration room

为了方便家长记忆,每个月的上半月的前两周的周日由康州的大唐负责午餐服务,每个月的下半月的后两周的周日由Flushing的福冕负责午餐服务。 本周午餐会在11:30pm 开始卖饭。地点不变,仍在楼上的B seminar room, 只收现金。

为保证学校清洁卫生,请大家用餐后自行清理桌面,保持地面清洁。可以将食品带回家, 但校园用餐只限于餐厅内 (绝对不可以到其它教室或室外用处)。烦请所有家长遵守。谢谢大家的配合。
