This school is registered with the State of New York as a non-profit organization.  It is a subsidiary of Huaxia Chinese School.  The objective of this school is to help the Chinese Americans in this community keep their tradition, know Chinese language and promote understanding between Chinese-American and other ethnic groups by teaching the Chinese language lessons (simplified version) and Chinese culture lessons to any persons, regardless of age, sex, color,  religion, national origin or creed. The Huaxia Chinese School, NY and Westchester Community College (WCC) have signed a collaborative agreement to work together and develop a fuller, future program that promotes a cross-culture exchange among local communities, and server as a Chinese cultural center in Westchester County

Huaxia Chinese School, (N.Y.) has been offering its classes in WCC campus at 75 Grasslands Road, Valhalla, New York 10595.

Class starts from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on Sundays.  Please refer to school calendar for detailed schedules.

From the Bronx River Parkway. Take Virginia Road, Exit 26. Southbound, turn right; Northbound, turn left. At end of Virginia Road, turn right onto Route 100. WCC entrance is approx. 1/4 mile on left.

From Cross-Westchester Expressway (Route 287). Take Hartsdale Exit 4. Eastbound, turn left; westbound, turn right. North on Knollwood Road (Route 100A) approx. 1/2 mile to WCC entrance on right.

From the Sprain Parkway. Take Eastview Exit. Northbound, turn right; Southbound, turn left onto Route 100. WCC entrance is approx. 1/4 mile on right.

From the Saw Mill River Parkway. Take Eastview Exit. Northbound, turn right; Southbound, turn left onto Route 100C. WCC entrance is approx. 1-1/2 miles on right.

By Bus or Train. Bee-Line buses No. 1-C, 15, 40 & 41 come onto the campus. For a schedule, call (914) 682-2020. Harlem Line train should be taken to White Plains, where you can take the 40, 41 or 15 bus or a taxi. For a train schedule, call 1-800-638-7646.

Classes are held in AAB (Academic & Arts Building) & SCI (Science Building).   Parking area 4 will be the nearest parking lot.

The Administration Offices Huaxia Chinese School, NY is on the 1st floor of AAB building.  All classrooms are scattered in the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors of AAB Building and the 3rd floor of SCI building.   Please refer to the classroom assignment page for details.

Huaxia Chinese School Regulations

Students Regulations:

  1. The school hours are between 9:30am-12:30pm every Sunday. Those students who have registered should attend the class according to the schedule. They are not supposed to be late or leave early at will. Should a student be absent for some reason, his or her parents need to ask for leave from the school .
  2. Students should respect their teachers and keep discipline in class.  They should listen attentively and are not supposed to walk around or talk as they please. They should not leave the classroom without giving the reason. In case a student needs to use the bathroom, he or she should let the teacher know.
  3. While in class, students should not eat (including chewing gum) or drink (except for the preschoolers).
  4. Students should take good care of the school facilities. They are not supposed to use other equipment than necessary.
  5. Students should dress themselves properly. No A-shirts and slippers are allowed in the classroom.
  6. Students should keep the school clean and tidy and be mindful of their own safety.
  7. Students should finish their homework on time.
  8. Students should take the mid-term and final exams given by the school every semester and take the tests given by their respective teachers.
  9. A student should explain to his or her teacher in case for some reason he or she is late or need to leave early.

Parents Regulations:

  1. The school has a Committee of Parents. Parents need to be on duty by turn every week, helping to keep order and ensure the students' safety, check the classroom after the class to make sure that it is clean and tidy, and distribute the notice of the school.
  2. The school hold all kinds of competitions , such as recital of poems, composition and story-telling, so as to enhance the students' interest in learning Chinese. Parents are expected to support these competitions.
  3. Teachers will hold a meeting with parents during the fourth week. If necessary, a private meeting between the teacher and the parents can be arranged by themselves.
  4. Should the parents have any opinion about the way of teaching of their children's teachers or about the performance appraisal of the students, they may let the school Administration know.
  5. Parents are not supposed to take their children to attend another class as they please. Students can only be transferred or placed with the proposal of the teacher and the approval of the Administration.  Before their transfer or placement, students must ask for a certificate of transfer or placement.
  6. In case of the weather or an emergency which affects the opening of the school, it is the Administration which can decide to cancel the class and inform the teachers accordingly. The Committee of Parents will inform the students.
  7. Should a parent wants to sit in the class, he or she should contact the Administration beforehand and get a certificate of auditing.
  8. There is a room for parents to have a rest. When class is session, parents are advised not to talk loudly in the corridor, so as not to disturb the students in class.
