Registration for the 2014-2015 school year will begin shortly in the incoming weeks.  All existing families of HXGNY will receive a special edition of Newsletter announcing the open registration date, procedure and policies via email.  Currently, the registration system is closed for upgrade purposes.

华夏大纽约中文学校（HXGNY）将于6月1日 10:00 am 到 1:00 pm 举办全校开放日。这将给新家庭提供最好的机会来了解学校，体验 HXGNY 的独到之处。通过一系列的介绍和参观，大家将有机会与教师，学校管理人员，家长及学生交流，并从他们那里听到关于HXGNY的第一手资料， 如语言课和文化课的设置，为孩子和成人安排的活动；对现有的家庭来说，这也是一个很好的机会，从而了解新学年的课程及活动并尽早确定下一学年的计划。

The HuaXia Chinese School of Greater New York(HXGNY) will host a school-wide Open House on June 1st from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. This is the best way for first-time families to visit the school and see what makes the HXGNY experience so special. Through a series of presentations and tours, our guests will get a chance to meet with teachers, administrators, and parents and to hear directly from them about HXGNY – its language and culture classes, its activities for kids and adults, its teachers and its possibilities; it will also be a great opportunity for existing families to know what is coming in the upcoming new school year, meeting old and new friends, and starts to plan for the new 2014-2015 school year.

Please join us for a fun and informative morning. You will also get chance to participate Go games and sports game later.

大纽约华夏中文学校田径运动会 (Track and Field Event) 6/1

大纽约华夏中文学校田径运动会将于六月一日下午在White Plains高中田径场举行， 运动会设有九项比赛项目，并为选手提供免费午餐。届时华夏康州分校师生也将莅临参赛。我校全体学生都可免费参加, 报名截止日期是五月二十五号，报名按此链接。截止日期前未登记者，我们将无法安排参加比赛。比赛当天我们还需要广大家长们的大力支持，在选择比赛项目和午餐时，还请选择您可以如何帮助这次运动会，以便我们统一安排。午餐12点开始在餐厅提供，所有参赛选手务请于12点50分前在比赛场地报道。如有疑问请电邮sports_hxgny@googlegroups.com。让我们在赛场上见。

HXGNY Track and Field Games will be held at the track and field stadium of White Plains High School on the afternoon of June 1. There will be nine events in the games and lunch will be provided free to all players. Students and teachers of HX CT will also participate our games. The registration is free to students of our school. Please follow this link to register before the May 25 deadline. We will need all parents’ help on the day of games, so please indicate what you would help in the registration, besides choosing the children’s events and lunch for your family members. We will then arrange your assignment considering your indication. Lunch will start around 12PM in the cafeteria and all participants should report to the referees in the stadium no later than 12:50PM. 大纽约华夏中文学校 围棋赛 (Go Tournament) 6/1

HXGNY 2014 Go Tournament will be held in the afternoon of June 1. Every person in our community is welcome to participate, including both children and adults and those outside of our Chinese school. Awards will be presented to the winners of the children’s group, while adults will have the great opportunity to play for leisure with other people with the same interest. The registration is open now till May 25. Please register early since the cutoff will be strictly by enrollment time if players exceed our capacity. To register, please fill the attached form and email it back to hxgny.go@gmail.com. The registration is free this time.

2014华夏大纽约围棋竞赛将于六月一日下午举行，社区全体成员都可参加，包括校内外的少儿和成人。少儿组获胜者将获得奖品，成人将有非常好的机会与其他有共同兴趣者交流。报名从现在起至五月二十五日截至。如报名人数太多，我们将严格按照报名时间决定最后参赛选手。请尽早填好随附的报名表并电邮到hxgny.go@gmail.com。 这次比赛没有报名费。

How to Develop a More Cooperative Relationship With Your Children 5/18

In this education seminar, Dr. Rosenthal introduces the idea that some amount of negativity and saying “No” is needed for children’s successful growing-up. Dr. Rosenthal also suggests that parents help their kids say more about their negative feelings. This is a first step in developing a more cooperative relationship with our kids.

“水立方杯”歌曲大赛大纽约地区选拔赛

“水立方杯”歌曲大赛大纽约地区选拔赛开始报名，年满14到22岁的定居美国的中国华侨或美籍华人可报名参加水立方杯”海外华裔青少年中文歌曲大赛活动，是由中国国务院侨办、北京市人民政府、中华全国青年联合会共同主办，北京侨办、北京电视台等承办。在海外20个城市选拔出40个选手到北京参加复赛和总决赛，凡年满14到22岁的定居美国的中国华侨或美籍华人可报名参加。

大纽约地区选拔赛中获特等奖和一等奖的选手，会被推荐到北京参加复赛。在复赛中获奖的选手将有机会参加8月8日在北京水立方举办的盛大颁奖典礼和文艺晚会，和国内众多艺术家联袂演出，晚会由北京电视台全程转播。

水立方杯比赛已经是第三届。2011年纽约赛区选送的选手黄一获得第一届总决赛唯一金奖，张冬妮获银奖，2012年，纽约选送的选手蓝天获得总决赛铜奖，2013年李安媒和刘瀚博分别获北京总决赛金银奖和优秀创作奖。另外，参加纽约选拔赛的选手还有机会被推荐参加北京侨办组织的13天免费2014寻根之旅夏令营活动。由于夏令营名额有限，推荐条件另行规定。

去北京参加比赛的选手机票自理，其他费用由国内主办方安排食宿。

比赛将于6月1日星期日在法拉盛举办。欢迎14至22岁的华裔青少年报名参加，免费报名。

“鹏达旅游”（PANDA TRAVEL LLC）今年将继续向华夏中文学校大纽约分校的家长和同学提供“上门”暑期签证服务。现就有关安排通知如下：
一，收、发证时间：
第一次收证时间：2014 年5 月 4 日（星期日） 10:00AM—12:00PM
第一次发证时间：2014 年5 月 18 日（星期日） 10:00AM—12:00PM
第二次收证时间：2014 年5 月 18 日（星期日） 10:00AM—12:00PM
第二次发证时间：2014 年6 月 1 日（星期日） 10:00AM—12:00PM
第三次收证时间：2014 年6 月 1 日（星期日） 10:00AM—12:00PM
第三次发证时间：不另去学校发证，请家长于2014 年6 月15 日以后自行到“鹏达旅游”办公室领取或要求办理回邮 (为邮件安全起见，我司统一使用FEDEX 和UPS 回邮，费用为每封邮件 $30.00) 。
二，注意事项：
中国驻纽约总领事馆于去年再次更改了赴华签证申请规定，启用了新的签证申请表格，增加了签证类别，加大了签证申请的难度。请各位家长在准备申请材料和填写申请表格时关注我们的注意事项。

2014 – 2015 学年注册信息 (2014 – 2015 Registration News)

Registration for the 2014-2015 school year will begin shortly in the incoming weeks.  All existing families of HXGNY will receive a special edition of Newsletter announcing the open registration date, procedure and policies via email.  Currently, the registration system is closed for upgrade purposes.  In the interim, there are several house-keeping items that we require parents’ attention:

1. If you don’t remember your username and password, please email registration@hxgny.org ASAP.  We may not be able to process these requests on a timely basis once registration begins.
2. We would highly encourage families to open a Paypal account, as it is the best / fastest way to link real-time into our registration system.  Payment by credit card will cause delay in syncing up with our system.  Checks are no longer accepted.
3. Families with account balance will receive a private reminder email before the weekend.  If you are unclear about the balance, please email registration@hxgny.org ASAP, so we can resolve for you.  If you want to clear your balance, please bring a check to Information Desk at H-room this Sunday.  We can’t make effective new registration till all old balance is cleared.

Speaker: Prof. David Rosenthal from Columbia University

Below is a brief bio of Prof. Rosenthal.

David Rosenthal teaches Clinical Case Evaluation at the Columbia University School of Social Work (CUSSW). He received his MSW from Columbia University in 1979, and his PhD from The Union Institute & University in 1989.

Dr. Rosenthal has worked as a clinical social worker with children and families in various settings for more than twenty years. He has served as Director of Training at the Grand Street Settlement, and as Director of Mental Health in the Children’s Aid Society’s Community Schools.

He has been involved in social work education for many years, teaching Clinical Practice courses at both the Masters and Post-Masters levels, and serving as field supervisor for many interns.

地点(Location)：Cafeteria新学年的注册即将临近，为了家长，学生们更好了解学校有关注册的政策，熟悉注册系统，并且做好语言课和文化课的选择，校委会和教育委员会专门举办二次有关注册和选课指南的系列讲座，具体介绍学校的课程安排，并回答大家关心的问题，系列讲座(2)在五月十八日 （文化课的选择）。详细介绍文化课，尤其是一些新增设的文化课。 希望大家踊跃参加。

还有比在母亲节看到自己孩子们精彩的舞台表演更令妈妈高兴的吗？ 那欢喜满足，骄傲自豪不是1个LV包，2条爱马仕围巾可以比拟的。母亲节这天我校的《明日之星-才艺大展》获得圆满成功。小朋友们的表演让现场时刻洋溢着掌声与喝彩。节目有体操，功夫瑜伽，呼啦圈，民族舞， 少儿舞，唱歌，古筝，提琴等等。三位小主持人是2013举行的《自信童年，风采尽现》“朗诵演讲主持人”比赛获奖者。

大纽约华夏中文学校数学俱乐部学生参加Math Count全国竞赛取得好成绩

美国初中生一年一度的MathCounts全国数学竞赛于五月九号在佛罗里达州的迪斯尼天鹅大酒店举行。224位选手来自全美56个州和地区。他们经过学校，地区和州三层竞赛选拔出来。大纽约华夏中文学校数学俱乐部六年级学生魏征有幸成为纽约州队四位选手之一。决赛选手们济济一堂，进行了个人笔试和团体笔试， ESPN还直播了最终抢答赛。今年纽约队获得了团体第四名。这是纽约队近年来获得的最好成绩， 比去年提高了十五名。魏征在我们中文学校读马立平六年级，并且参加了我校的数学MathCounts/AMC俱乐部。在过去的一年里，数学俱乐部的徐珉老师、魏景东老师为俱乐部的学生们精心安排了各种习题训练并讲解了相关内容。校方也大力支持俱乐部的活动，安排模拟测试，提供了各种资料等。
