HXGNY School Closing on Sunday Dec 15, 2013 due to inclement weathers

Dear Parents:

White Plains High School informed our school that WPHS will not be open this Sunday due to inclement weathers. The estimate of snow accumulation will be 4 to 8 inches in our area. Night temperature is low. Road will be slippery.
No Chinese school this Sunday. We hope all families stay safe!

HXGNY 2013 Speech Host Contest / 演讲主持比赛

Sunday 12/08 12:30 – 3:00pm

大纽约华夏中文学校将举行2013年“自信童年，风采尽现”演讲主持比赛。
时间： 12/08，12：30 – 3：00pm
地点： 小剧场

比赛分成两个会场: 低年级组(一至二年级, K可以参加一年级组); 高年级组(三年级，和四年级以上)。 比赛分三部分进行: 先是简要自我介绍，然后是1-3分钟的才艺展现（朗诵、讲故事、说笑话, 绕口令，或美国学校常用的Show & Tell形式). 题材健康活泼, 积极向上。最后是一分钟的现场问答。 1至3年级前三名将代表我校参加12/15 和 01/05 的培训和总校的一月中旬的演讲比赛, 四年级以上获奖人将成为校内春节联欢会主持人。

Contestants will be split into two groups: lower grade G1-2, higher grade G3 and up. K may join G1 group. The contest will have 3 parts. First part is a brief self-introduction. Second part is 1-3 minutes’ talent show, reciting a poem, story telling, tongue twister, or show & tell. The topics should be positive and upbeat. The last part is a 1 minute impromptu Q/A. Top 3 winners from each grade of G1 to G3 will represent HXGNY to attend inter-school speech contest, (After the contest, winners from lower grades will group on 12/15 and 01/05 for training/rehearsal), or preside over our school’s Chinese New Year Party.

HXGNY 2013 Go Tournament

2013华夏大纽约围棋竞赛将于十二月十五日下午举行，社区全体成员都可参加，包括校内外的少儿和成人。少儿组获胜者将获得奖品，成人将有非常好的机会与其他有共同兴趣者交流。报名从现在起至十二月八日。如报名人数太多，我们将严格按照报名时间决定最后参赛选手。请尽早填好随附的报名表并电邮到hxgny.go@gmail.com. 报名费是$15一人，请用Paypal 链接付款。

HXGNY 2013 Go Tournament will be held in the afternoon of Dec 15. Everybody in our community is welcome to participate, including both children and adults and those outside of our Chinese school. Awards will be presented to the winners of the children’s group while adults will have the great opportunity to play for leisure with other people with the same interest. The registration is open now till Dec 8. Please register early since the cutoff will be strictly by enrollment time if players exceed our capacity. We are honored to invite Dr. Li Xinmei to share with us her expertise in pediatric care, focusing on young children. Dr. Li has board certifications in both Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. She has over twenty years experience in Pediatrics. She will speak with us covering developmental areas of both physical and psychological. If you have any specific questions or need clarification on something that your current pediatrician had instructed, Dr. Li will spend ~30 min to discuss your concerns after her talk.

All grades from pre-K to G9 will have the second parent teacher conference (PTC) this Sunday. Pre-K, K , and CSL will have the meeting in their classrooms using a portion of the class time. Please pay attention to the announcements from your teachers. Regular G1 to G9 will have PTC in the student cafeteria (where the seminars are held) or the faculty cafeteria. Through more than 2 months of careful planning, seamless coordination, hard work and ordered execution, Michael Chen 大学助学金中心- 华夏中文学校 2013教学研讨会暨教师年会 成功举行!   Once again, we accomplished what we had promised.   We had the honor to host around 300 registered attendees, 6 invited speakers, 11 HX speakers over more than 15 topics covering Chinese culture, teaching methodology and skills, textbook selection and preparation, Chinese-learning via internet, balanced professionalism and volunteerism in managing HX Chinese schools, etc.  Branch principals and deans were also provided with role-specific forums to exchange views and share experiences.  This conference has emerged as one of the signature events of our HX community that attracted the attention of some federal, state and local government officials.  The following links direct you to the appraisal of the event by the popular media and capture the memorable moments of the two-day event：

In echoing the applause from the audience in our closing ceremony, the organization committee would like to express its sincere appreciation to all serving the event.   First, the 2013-2014 HX board is credited for the generous approval of the needed spending.   Specially thanks are to the branch principals and staff members for their full support and coordination in speech submission, in-time registration, prompt delivery of paychecks and a steady supply of volunteers.   The committee would never accomplish its mission without the two-month plus tireless joined work by its dedicated members: Jaclyn Lee, 李盛京, 李晓京，林 合, 林树民，刘 建，吕敏伟，王 宏，王 坚, 阎 明，叶 森，张长春 and 张 逊.  The committee has also received tremendous help from other volunteer contributors, 高歌, 郝若飞, 李久耀，马剑涛，沈晓星，吴庆立，姚明, etc.   Its gratitude is further extended to the following regional coordinators of 2013 HX 教学部 for their efforts in collecting and compiling the presentation and forum materials and hosting the panel discussions: 杜娟, 刘燕云, 曾专, 张悦, 仲爱梅 and 周英.

Such as in all its others activities, our华夏中文学校, as a non-profit organization, has always been in debt to the generous support from all branches, teachers, parents and various business partners.  The 2013 HX Teachers Conference would definitely be of a lesser scale without the generous sponsorship from Michael Chen大学助学金中心 (the title sponsor), Metlife (a platinum sponsor),  南海图书 (gold sponsor), and other sponsors.  
 
Last but not the least, our sincere gratitude to all those whose names may have missed our attention but whose help had always been available whenever needed.
