Dear HXGNY families,

You are all cordially invited to the MidAutumn Festival party on September 22, at from 1230 PM to 4 PM. We will provide lunch, drink plus mooncake for everyone.
The Croton Point park has a big pavilion with tables (rain or shine, it is a perfect location). There are some performances, lots of fun activities for the kids, as well as playground close by. Please bring blankets to sit on during picnic. It will be a great opportunity to meet new friends and catch up with old friends, relax and enjoy the afternoon.

Please purchase actual event/lunch tickets in the White Plain High School cafeteria on Sunday 9/15/13, between 930AM till 12:30PM. Or Buy here:

The price of the tickets will cover the reservation fees for the park and parking fees, as well as all the food and drinks for everyone. We will prepare sufficient food and drinks for everyone based on the actual tickets sale.

If you purchase the tickets on 9/15, the prices are $8 for adults and seniors, $5 for kid 5 and above, and kids age 0-4 are free.
If you purchase the tickets on 9/22 (the day of the event), the prices will be $10 per adult ticket.

新学期，新希望，共创新辉煌

亲爱的各位家长:

转眼我们又到了新的学年，华夏中文学校大纽约分校也迎来了她的周岁纪念日。在过去一年里我们从无到有，共同创建了本地区最大的中文学校。华夏大纽约承继了华夏十几年的办学经验和传统，但处处更洋溢着新生代的蓬勃朝气。新学年伊始，我们更上一层楼，到目前为止，注册少儿学生比上一学年已增加了百分之三十。我们校委会、董事会，感谢所有华夏家长对我们的信任，并在此致以新学年的问候。

学校规模的迅速扩大伴随着发展的新机遇，也带来了管理上的新要求。在新学年里，我们将着力于以下几个方面：

1. 完善以美洲华语，马立平课本为骨架，以标准中文等教材为辅助的多选择体系，我们将在已开通的美洲华语一至九年级，马立平一至七年级的基础上，进一步强化不同年级不同教材之间的衔接，于各种教材间取长补短。

2. 进一步发展教学评估体系，通过定量分析，不断完善课程设置，探讨教材教法，为全方位确保孩子学习进展打下基础。并通过教师培训等方法，不断提高教学质量。

3. 根据家长意向和学校办学条件，增补改进文化课设置，提高学生综合素质。今年我们开设了多门新课程，同时将尝试增设多个课后俱乐部，为学生提供更多的学习机会。

4. 开展各项文体活动，建设华夏大家庭。我们已经制定了新一年的文体活动计划，活跃家长们的周末生活，增进华夏大纽约作为当地华人社区中心的功能，同时寓教于乐，让孩子们在各种活动中使用中文，领略中华文化。

5. 持续建设学校志愿者管理团队。我们继改组学校管理架构后，将不断努力提高学校管理的专业化，制度化，建立完整校规，同时弘扬华夏志愿者传统，为学校管理团队稳定持续的发展打下基础。

6. 走出校门，走向社区，我们加强与各团体、教育机构联系，为社区服务。在暑假里，我们成功举办了中国侨办海外华文教育名师巡讲团纽约地区的培训活动。我们还将扩大这方面的工作。

四百四十个少儿学生，三百一十个华夏家庭，为了中华文化的传承，为了华人社区的建设，我们将在新的一年里相聚于华夏大纽约。“天行健，君子以自强不息，地势坤，君子以厚德载物 ” ，在所有家长、老师、管理团队的不懈努力下，在华人社会尊师重道传统的引导下，在华夏志愿者精神的鼓舞下，华夏大纽约必将在新学年里再创辉煌！

Important Information for First Day of School on 09/08/2013

Campus Location:
学校地址在White Plains High School，550 North Street, White Plains, NY 10605。我校师生可专用B楼侧门进出，从路口转入校园即可看到。HXGNY将使用B楼的全部教室和C楼的部分教室，各楼之间均由室内通道连接。进门后，家长可直达作为休息区的Cafeteria和宽敞明亮的Ｈ-Room. B楼教室环绕Ｈ-Room，分处一楼和二楼。从一楼经回廊，可到达C楼的教室。(See Maps: school layout map, school floor map)开学第一天，您可以在设于Cafeteria的注册台办理交费等事宜。现场缴费的家长，凭收据领取孩子的教材。事先缴费的孩子可直接去所在的教室，由各班家长代表直接领取教材发放。学校办公室设在H-Room. 请教师、助教和值班家长在签到台签到。您有疑问，可以在进口处的咨询台、Cafeteria的注册台，以及H-Room的办公室得到解答。

Textbook Distribution Procedures:
Students with their tuition check received can get the textbooks in class. The class parent will deliver the books directly.

If you decide to pay tuition on the 1st day of school, you need to go to the registration desk (Cafeteria) first to pay and get a permission slip before you can go to the textbook distribution desk for your children’s textbook. Please come to school 15 minutes earlier to avoid unnecessary delay on the 1st day of school.

Special Announcement for Some Culture Classes

This year, our number of registered students have surpassed 400. The fast expansion of the school also gives us an opportunity to recruit more highly experienced and dedicated teachers to our faculty staff.
To better service our parents and students, we hired some professional teachers from outside vendors for the following classes: Magic Jr/Sr Class, English Writing/Reading, Latin Dance Sr. and Chess Jr./Sr. Class. Due to the fee increase, we will charge each student $100 extra fee for the above classes. As we have limited spots for the above mentioned culture classes, please register as soon as you can. New Culture Class Open for Registration

Advanced Painting (Acrylic/Oil) for G4+ and Adult / 高级绘画班（丙烯画、油画）
Time: 9:30-10:30
Extra Cost: $100 to cover materials for entire school year (paper, cloth, oil, brush, etc).
Teacher: Aihua Shea, a professional artist with over 15 years of teaching experience in the greater New York area. Currently teaching Cartoon Drawing Jr. 卡通漫画 and Chinese Brush Painting for Adults 成人国画课.

孩子是天生的画家，他们对色彩特别敏感，鲜艳的颜色会引发他们对绘画的兴趣，激起他们对绘画的渴望。所以在孩子学习绘画时，应该让他们接触彩色，大胆地使用颜色，用色彩来造型，画些他们想要画的东西，让儿童的想象力通过色彩充分地发挥和表达。在任课老师的指导下，由浅入深引导，使他们能在绘画过程中更加热爱生活、大自然，并从中得到美的享受。本课程向四年级以上学生开放，也欢迎成人学员参加。所有画具和颜料将由学校统一安排、保管，以保证每次上课的授课时间。

教课内容：
第一，色彩的认识。（1）认识三原色；（2）颜色的调配，“间色”和“复色”；（3）冷色、暖色和对比色。
第二，色彩练习。（1）笔触的运用。简单的图案练习，用三种色到八种色作画，课堂提供现场绘画教材；（2）色彩层次的变化。同类色渐变的运用，分出层次、深浅，变化柔和。
第三，绘画素材。动物，食物，日常用具等等。在完成课堂要求的前提下，学生们也可以自由发挥自己的想象。

HXGNY dancing team is honored to be invited to perform at Mets Baseball Pre-game show – An Evening of Chinese Culture& Middle Autumn Festival, at Cifi Field, NY, on 9/13. All the HXGNY families are welcomed to attend this great event and celebrate Middle Autumn together. We will cheer for our own school performers , enjoy the Chinese Culture show and watch baseball game afterward.

School Starts on 09/08

HXGNY admin team is in the final phase of preparation work for the new school year starting 09/08. This year, our number of registered students have surpassed 400. This great accomplishment is a result of the collective effort from our teachers, parents, and volunteers. To avoid over-sized classes and to ensure delivery of high quality education to your children, the school is adding an additional class to each grade from PreK to 4th grade. To keep balanced class size, the school is making minor adjustment on students’ class assignment based mainly on class of choice at registration and the registration date. Next week, teachers from each class will be in touch with the parents. The school will also publish school opening day information such as classroom assignment, etc. Please check your email or visit our web site at www.hxgny.org. The fast expansion of the school also gives us an opportunity to recruit more highly experienced and dedicated teachers to our faculty staff. We believe that in the new school year, our school will be stronger and better than ever.A larger school also needs more volunteers. Teachers’ Bios and Class Assignments

Our school has become the primary choice of parents for their kids to learn Chinese language and culture – we have got an over 25% increase in enrollment compared to last school year. In order to ensure education quality and to keep the class size, one extra class has been added to each lower grades. We have also opened 美洲华语 (MZHY) for Grade 1 through Grade 9. Recap: 08/25 Teachers’ Training and School Visiting Day

On Sunday 8/25, our school faculty attended an orientation and training event to prepare for the new school year. New teachers were warmly welcomed by the existing faculty. It was exciting to see the talents that filled the room! In addition to getting informed of school policies, teachers heard Principal Dr. Lin’s presentation on the importance and execution strategies of incorporating assessment tools to help achieving education goals. Yun Fu, Jin Sheng and Yu Lin shared their experiences teaching MLP or MZHY. Yue Huang shared her appreciation of both textbook systems. At group discussions, everybody got a chance to exchange ideas and worked on the teaching plans together. Some new parents stopped by to ask questions and/or register their children. Many admin and board members came to help out to make it such a successful day! They also brought in delicious pastries and moon cakes for the teachers. Click herefor Photos.

Board Announcement

To ensure that the Board of Directors has a balance of existing and new members each year to keep consistency and encourage innovation, the Board announced the following plan in May:

Expand the number of directors to 9 in total
All of the current 7 directors will retire in three years: 1 this year, 3 next year and 3 the year after
Elect three new directors each year, starting from this year
Each of the new directors serves a three-year term, with no immediate renewal

To that end, the board formed a nomination committee in June and started to ask school volunteers for nominations of new directors. In the past two months, the board had talked to many of last year’s Admin and PTA team members, some teachers and parents, as well as every nominated candidate. The board reviewed and then voted on the candidates on August 24th.

We are pleased to announce that the board has elected three new board members, Mr. Michael Wu, Dr. Dachun Yao and Dr. Mingbao Zhang. Please click here for their bios. They all have volunteered in Huaxia for many years with great experiences in school operations, have made substantial contributions to the school, and are all committed to serving our children and the school community in the future.

In the same time, Ms. Grace Ying has volunteered to retire from the board this year. Over the past year as a board member, Grace has served as the Chair of fund raising committee and a member of finance committee, policy committee and nomination committee. We want to thank Grace for her great volunteerism and many contributions. Grace will join the advisory board to continue her service to the school. Please click here for her bio.

Here are the open positions:
1. Editor-in-Chief: 要求: 有丰富的编辑工作经验, 有较高的文字编辑能力和沟通能力，善于领导与管理团队, 善于独立工作。要求在HXGNY G9或中文AP在读, 或者刚毕业于HXGNY, 仍担任TA工作。申请者须提交一份短文 (中英文俱可), 说明对这份工作的设想；一份五百字以内独立完成的中文作文, 提供两个推荐人信息。2. Editors: 对主编负责, 根据选题征集稿源, 完成稿件的编辑工作, 在规定期限前提交给主编。要求：喜欢中文写作，有一定的文字编辑能力，能够在截稿期之前完成工作, 有较好的沟通能力。要求在HXGNY G6或以上在读(含中文AP) , 或者刚毕业于HXGNY, 仍担任TA工作。申请者须提交一份短文(中英文俱可), 说明为什么胜任这份工作; 一份五百字以内独立完成的中文作文. 如有可能，请附上中文老师的推荐意见。3. HXGNY Moon Festival Party

Dear HXGNY parents: Please mark your calendar for our traditional HXGNY MidAutumn Festival BBQ party On September 22 from 12:30 PM till 4PM at Croton Point Park. We will provide lunch, drink plus mooncakes for everyone attending. There is a big pavilion onsite, with playground, and some sports activities for the kids. More details coming soon.

Soccer Tournament Result

During the summer break, our school’s soccer team played Huaxia Cup with ten other teams, and advanced into the playoff round. The 32 members of our team came from New York and Connecticut. Compared with other teams, we had the longest commute and tightest schedule. Some members had to drive more than two hours before the game, and the team sometimes played three matches in a hot summer day. Despite all the difficulties, through collaborative effort, the team entered playoff. Kudos to all the team members for their great sportsmanship.

暑期中我校足球队参加了中文学校系统的华夏杯足球赛，最终克服了很多困难并打入了复赛轮。这次比赛共有十一个中文学校的队伍参与，我队由来自纽约和康州的队员联合组成，与参赛各队相比，我队面临的困难最大，住家离赛场最远，赛程最紧张，我们有些队员要开两个多小时赶到赛场，有时要在炎热的一天中打了三场比赛。虽有重重困难，但全体队员齐心协力打入复赛，在此我们向全体参赛者致敬。

Culture Class

热爱舞蹈，擅长民族舞，现代舞，体育舞蹈。从小接受专业体能训练，曾获市级运动会跳高第一名，全能第二名。体能和基本功的训练为后来的舞蹈学习打下基础。从小学到大学各个阶段，都曾作为学校舞蹈队骨干，代表学校参加各类舞蹈表演。研究生阶段是Upenn ballroom dance club 成员。愿与喜爱舞蹈的朋友一同在音乐中快乐塑身。中国传媒大学本科，宾西法尼亚大学传播学博士。
