It’s the season to be jolly! We will hold a Christmas Dancing Party celebrating the holidays. Let us come together, enjoy music, friendship and share the season’s spirit. Everyone is welcome!!! Ballroom dance music will be the main menu with disco music for break time. Specially invited singers will accompany some music. If you would like to highlight your charming voice, please contact us by email:dachun927@gmail.com, and we will send you the music list for preparation. Wonderful dancing shows will be performed by invited guests at the beginning of the party. Tickets will be available on site($8.00 per ticket). Each ticket holder will get one drink and a snack. Additional drinks and snacks will be on sale during the party. Children under 12 years can join the party for free, and we will provide engaging entertainment for them separately. We are looking forward to seeing all of you.

Education Seminar This Sunday:

Prof. Frank Zhu (邾立志教授), a member of our Advisory Board, will give a presentation for our teachers and parents this Sunday. His topic will be “Random Thoughts on Chinese and American Cultures and How Cultural Differences Impact Language Acquisition.” At 2012 HuaXia Teachers’ Conference last month, Prof. Zhu’s presentation on a similar topic was enthusiastically received by the conference attendees. We would like to welcome everyone to join us for an illuminating seminar. Date: 12/16 (This Sunday), Time: 10am-12pm, Location: Cafeteria.

Education Excellence Committee Update:

Our school has successfully formed an Education Excellence Committee (abbreviated as Education Committee). The committee members are consisted of board members, administration team members, PTA members and general parents. This mission of the education committee is to help our school to continuously improve education quality. The committee will assist school leadership in improving teaching and learning environment, developing quality assessments and providing consultations on future directions. The first general meeting is scheduled on 12/14 (This Friday). Everyone is welcome and is encouraged to provide the committee with any suggestions and comments. 华夏大纽约演讲主持比赛在上周日如期举行并圆满落幕。共计超过50个学生登台表演，参赛者以生动有趣的故事，诙谐幽默的笑话，优美隽永的诗词，落落大方的表现给观众们带来美好感受。我们感谢所有参与者和组织者的精心努力。最终获奖名单如下：

本周日大纽约华夏中文学校2012年“自信童年，风采尽现”演讲主持比赛：

由于报名参加演讲主持比赛学生已经５０多人，本周日比赛将分组进行。第一组由一到三年级学生组成，第二组将由四年级以上学生组成。请家长带好孩子准时参加。

１. 参赛选手午餐免费，陪同家长每份需交纳五美元，自助服务。
２. 比赛地点为little theater和D108，具体见指示牌。
３. 参赛者上场顺序将按年级为序（由低年级到高年级）。

比赛分三部分进行。先是简要自我介绍，然后是2-3分钟的才艺展现（朗诵、讲故事、说绕口令，或美国学校常用的Show & Tell形式，应选择积极向上，赞美自然或歌颂人物相关的题材）。最后是一分钟的现场问答。一至三年级的获奖选手（每个年级前三名）将代表我校参加总校组织的演讲比赛，最佳获奖选手将被推荐为校内春节联欢会主持人。

“自信童年，风采尽现” 朗诵演讲暨主持人比赛(HXGNY 2012 Speech and Hosting Contest)12月2日18:00报名截止:

为鼓励华夏学生学习中文的积极性，锻炼学生用中文思考、表达、演讲和辩论的能力，培养舞台表演能力，华夏中文学校大纽约分校将于2012年12月9日12:30-15:00举行《朗诵演讲暨主持人比赛》。本次活动邀请CSL和一年级以上的同学参加。比赛分三部分进行。先是简单的自我介绍，然后是不超过2分钟的才艺展现（朗诵、讲故事、说绕口令或美国学校常用的Show & Tell 形式），最后是一分钟的现场即兴问答.  获奖者推荐为校内春节联欢会主持人。我们还将根据才艺表演部分的得分，在1 – 3 年级的同学中选出每个年级的前三名，代表我校参加华夏总校组织的演讲比赛. 报名表格将于本周末发至各班。请将填写好的报名表交到学校咨询台或Email toyanyun_liu@yahoo.com，ningyuan1@gmail.com. 12月2日18:00报名截止。规则和报名表请点击这里.

To provide more opportunities for our student to practice speech, lecture, debating skill in Chinese, and enrich stage performance experiences, HXGNY will host 2012 Speech and Hosting Contest on2012/12/09 between 12:30 to 15:00.  The contest is open to all students in CSL, or first grade and above.  Each speaker will start with a brief self introduction, followed by a two-minute free style presentation.  A variety of shows, such as poem recital, storytelling, tongue twister, show & tell would all be welcome.  A one-minute impromptu speech/Q & A will follow the presentation.  The winners of the contest will have the opportunity to co-host New Year Celebration Party of the school.  For 1-3^rd grade students, three speakers from each grade with the highest score in the presentation section will have the honor to represent our school to attend the HuaXia speech contest final.  Registration form will be distributed to classes this weekend. HuaXia Chinese School Teachers Conference 2012 (HXTC-2012) Recap:

华夏中文学校2012教学研讨会暨教师年会于11月17至18日在新泽西州召开。此次会议以“ 培训技能﹑提高素质﹑交流经验﹑共同进步” 为主题。近400位来自新州、纽约、康州和费城的华夏分校的教师和校务人员以及大会特邀嘉宾参加了此次年会。我校也有5名老师参加。

在周六的开幕式上，王坚总校校长首先回顾了华夏中文学校从95年成立之初的70多名学生迅速增加到至今7000多名规模的发展过程，并感谢学生家长们以及社区的各界人士对华夏中文学校的支持和帮助。开幕式后是全体大会，来自罗格斯大学 (Rutgers University) 亚洲语言和文化系的Dietrich Tschanz 教授和宾夕法尼亚大学沃顿商学院(Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania )的任長慧教授，以及在宾夕法尼亚州担任联邦法官的陈瑷达女士分别作了精彩的演讲。

周六下午的分组研讨会的专题包括“汉语传播与汉语教学” ﹑ “ 校长，教务长论坛” ﹑ “标准化考试与中文教学” ﹑ “汉字教学研究” ﹑“教学技巧，教学方法探讨” ﹑ “教材与教学研究”和“教学模式与课程设计”等。主要由应邀嘉宾和华夏分校老师与大家分享他们的海外中文教学经验。 我校陈敏老师在“教材与教学研究”的专题研讨会中作了题目为“浅谈《标准中文》《马立平中文》和《美洲华语》的教材特色，以及在课堂教学中的相互借鉴”的汇报演讲。（注：该报告内容将张贴在HXGNY的Education Discussion 专栏里，以便感兴趣的教师们详细了解，也欢迎大家参与讨论。陈老师将在本校教育委员会讲座系列中再次跟大家分享.）专题研讨会后即进入大会问答讨论。由特邀嘉宾回答大家共同关心的问题， 包括如何提高在海外成长的孩子对中文学习的兴趣以及如何促进华夏教师之间的经验交流等等。

周六晚上的活动主题是“向教师致敬”的互动联欢晚会. 在晚会期间，王坚总校校长对华夏中文学校2012年度的优秀教师进行表彰。我校的黄岳老师，由于这一年来，在推进华夏纽约的教学改革工作和带动教学团队的成长方面成效显著，被推举为今年总校优秀教师。

周日上午的全体大会由总校副校长李盛京主持，来自联合国的陈峰教授、Rowan大学的韩爱果教授以及Seton Hall大学的陈东东教授分别作了关于语言教学中利用翻译技巧、哲学思考、以及流派介绍等专题报告。我校校长林骏教授在随后进行的校长、教务长论坛上，作了题为“中文学校办学战略初探：以教学评估体系为切入点”的报告，引起在座各分校校长的广泛兴趣和热烈讨论，并纷纷提议总校更好地协调各分校之间分享教改成果。

此次研讨会的气氛热烈，参加年会的许多老师们反映从中受益匪浅。

Recap 六年级美洲华语班旧货出售活动(Garage Sale Nov. 18):

为 配合课堂教学，十一月十八日，美洲华语六年级的学生在盛瑾老师的指导下举办了一个旧货出售活动，出售学生平时不用的旧玩具和书籍等。 旧货出售活动取得圆满成功。师生们寓教学于乐， 并为学校捐赠$112.55盈利。我们感谢参加这次义务活动的同学们: 张彦凌, 吴达翰, 沈之扬, 陈芝瑾, 郑乔治和 翁太川. 照片请点击这里。
