本周日六年级美洲华语班旧货出售活动（Garage Sale This Sunday）:

为配合课堂教学，本周日，美洲华语六年级要在全校举办一个旧货出售活动，要出售学生平时不用的旧玩具和书籍等。六年级美洲华语班的同学在此邀请全校所有的同学一起来加入这次有意义的公益活动。需要出售旧货的同学，请标明姓名、班级、 价格, 并在12点之前把旧货送到 WPHS Cafeteria。 为了便于操作，每位同学仅限三件旧货。本次活动的所有收入将全部捐给学校。没有卖掉的物品将退还给本人。为了我们有一个更好的学习环 境，请献出你的爱心吧!!!

大纽约华夏中文学校2012年“自信童年，风采尽现” 朗诵演讲暨主持人比赛通知(HXGNY 2012 Speech and Hosting Contest Announcement):

为鼓励华夏学生学习中文的积极性，锻炼学生用中文思考、表达、演讲和辩论的能力，培养舞台表演能力，华夏中文学校大纽约分校将于2012年12月9日12:30-15:00举行《朗诵演讲暨主持人比赛》。本次活动邀请CSL和一年级以上的同学参加。比赛分三部分进行。先是简单的自我介绍，然后是不超过2分钟的才艺展现（朗诵、讲故事、说绕口令或美国学校常用的Show & Tell 形式），最后是一分钟的现场即兴问答.  获奖者推荐为校内春节联欢会主持人。我们还将根据才艺表演部分的得分，在1 – 3 年级的同学中选出每个年级的前三名，代表我校参加华夏总校组织的演讲比赛. 报名表格将于本周末发至各班。请将填写好的报名表交到学校咨询台或Email toyanyun_liu@yahoo.com，ningyuan1@gmail.com. 12月2日18:00报名截止。规则和报名表请点击这里.

To provide more opportunities for our student to practice speech, lecture, debating skill in Chinese, and enrich stage performance experiences, HXGNY will host 2012 Speech and Hosting Contest on2012/12/09 between 12:30 to 15:00.  The contest is open to all students in CSL, or first grade and above.  Each speaker will start with a brief self introduction, followed by a two-minute free style presentation.  A variety of shows, such as poem recital, storytelling, tongue twister, show & tell would all be welcome.  A one-minute impromptu speech/Q & A will follow the presentation.  The winners of the contest will have the opportunity to co-host New Year Celebration Party of the school.  For 1-3^rd grade students, three speakers from each grade with the highest score in the presentation section will have the honor to represent our school to attend the HuaXia speech contest final.  Registration form will be distributed to classes this weekend. 上述教育升学讲座于2012 年11月11日 星期天取得圆满成功. 两位优秀的华夏中文学校校友马吉丝小姐和刘婷娜小姐为我们做了非常精彩的演讲。她们比较系统地讲述了她们在高中阶段的奋斗历程, 以及美国相关名校的申请技巧。我们非常感谢她们为我们学校所做的贡献.请到如下链接查看马吉丝小姐的演讲内容和刘婷娜小姐的演讲内容和相关照片.另外,许多家长对婷娜所著的书《我在美国读高中-哈佛女孩刘婷娜成长手册》很感兴趣, 由于她所带的书供不应求，好些家长没能买到。为了方便家长，我们将帮助登记和收集书款统一购买。请有意购书的家长用如下电邮与我们联系: dachun927@gmail.com. 总之, 要想被美国名校录取, 只有很高的GPA 是不够的, 申请者还必须显示很强的领导才能, 积极参加各种有吸引力的课外和社会活动, 并且在相关专业方面有突出的才能和成就. 我们在不久的将来还将继续举办专门针对学生们的教育升学讲座, 热烈欢迎所有人员积极参与.

The education seminar titled as “High School Experience and College Application from Outstanding Alumni” was concluded with great success last Sunday (11/11/12). Both speakers, Miss Jessia Ma and Miss Tina Liu described in detail their amazing high school experience and many valuable skills for the college application in their lectures. In summary, in order to be admitted by the prestigious universities in USA, in addition to high GPA, the applicants must show strong leadership, very attractive extracurricular activities and significant achievement and expertise in the related area. “望 子成龙, 望女成凤”, 相信这是每一个做父母的梦想, 如何让自己的孩子在众多竞争中胜出,在高中毕业时能够进一所理想的大学, 这个话题一直是大家关注的焦点. 让我们来听听孩子们的声音, 让他们来告诉我们应该怎样做. 我们特邀请了两位被名校录取的优秀毕业生给大家重点介绍她们在高中阶段的奋斗历程以及相关大学申请技巧. 热烈欢迎所有感兴趣的家长，父母以及在读学生积极参加这次讲座.

马吉丝小姐 (Miss Jessia Ma)，华夏中文学校2009年毕业，Horace Greeley 高中2011年毕业。高中期间曾是学校亚美文化交流部创建人，学校艺术俱乐部部长，学生杂志主编和艺术总监, 曲棍球队队长，管弦乐队主席。马吉丝小姐在绘画方面特别突出, 高中毕业时代表当年毕业班为学校画壁画留为永久纪念,曾在华夏中文学校担任两年绘画班助教, 其绘画作品曾获各类奖项，其中包括<世界日报>母亲节贺卡设计青少年组第一名。2011年被当年只有7.7%录取率, 提供全额奖学金的库博学院录取。库博科学与艺术学院 (Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art) 位于纽约曼哈顿, 它的三个专业,包括建筑,艺术和工程在美国排名都为前列。曾被美国新闻周刊评为 “最受欢迎的小院校第一名”, “最受欢迎的院校第7名”。库博学院为每一位录取的学生提供全额奖学金资助，价值近15万美元，在美国高等院校中屈指可数.

刘婷娜小姐 (Miss Tina Liu), 华夏中文学校2006 年毕业, 2007年以全校学业全能第一名荣誉奖的身份毕业于Ossining 高中，2007年全美国家杰出才能奖学金获得者，全美AP杰出学者和全美高中学术队队员。此外获得了多项包括英特尔科学竞赛半决赛奖、全美年轻流行病学者 科研竞赛决赛奖、英特尔国际科学及工程博览会大赛大奖等高中生科研竞赛大奖。麻省理工学院的林肯实验室还特地用她的名字命名一颗小行星。这颗小行星的轨迹 任何人都可在美国国家航空航天局的网站上跟踪：http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?23071. 2011年5月以高等荣誉优秀毕业生的身份从哈佛毕业, 目前在纽约市一家大型投资银行任职。在哈佛大学期间，担任过哈佛Veritas Financial Group 金融俱乐部主席，哈佛学生女性企业家俱乐部企业发展委员会主席等职位。被哈佛商学院提前录取为二加二(工作两年后读两年)的MBA学员。她所著的《我在美 国读高中 – 哈佛女孩刘婷娜成长手册》一书最近已由广东人民出版社出版。2012年10月26应腾讯微博邀请作客腾讯微访谈，有8400多听众参予，详见如下网址: http://zhibo.sports.qq.com/mbask/5868/.

Recap “快乐童年，唱响未来”小歌手比赛(Young Singer Contest):

尽管饱受飓风“桑迪”所带来的不便影响，我们的小歌手比赛依然在上周日如期举行。共计超过30个学生登台表演，一展歌喉。廖晓安、刘吉麟、王馨和王淳分获低年级组的前三名；徐翰扬、Richard Yan、郑芷兰则分获高年级组的前三名。PTA团队感谢家长们的鼎力支持，并期待大家踊跃报名即将到来的小主持人比赛。照片请点击这里。

In spite of the inconvenience brought by Hurricane Sandy, our singer contest on last Sunday concluded successfully.  There were more than 30 students performed on stage and showed their singing talent. Liao Xiao’an, Liu Jilin, Wang Xin and Wang Chun won the  1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place in Junior group. Xu Hanyang, Richard Yan, Zheng Zhilan won the 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place in Senior group.  The PTA team really appreciate the parents’ support and encourage you to join us again in the pending Hoster’s Contest. Click here for pictures.
