魔幻“万圣节”游行 (Halloween Parade 10/26)

最具魔幻,充满精灵的节日,孩子们最快乐的的节日 “万圣节” 就要到了。你会怎样过?

1. 为了给孩子们一个快乐,难忘的节日, 华夏大纽约将于10月26日举行万圣节游行. 为
增加节日气氛,希望家长和老师也着costume。启蒙班至三年级学生以班级为单位参加,
请家长为学生准备好万圣节服装, 高年级学生根据学生意愿,可自由参加。

游行将于11:15 AM在 H Room 外楼梯处开始. 希望各位家长们把小朋友们装扮好再送
到教室/学校,低年级 (PreK-G3) 小朋友家长最好协助老师11:05AM和班级一起准备游行。游行沿走廊经过布置好的万圣节背景区,此处是举班/举家合影的好场所,再穿过室外大天井,回到室内,我们备有小礼品赠送给小朋友们,终点在学校侧门的前庭(Hallway between A and B Building)。Pre-K家长接孩子回家, K 班孩子和老师回教室, G1-G3家长接孩子上文化课。请家长们带上相机,记录下这难得的场景。

2. 我们同时还会举行手工和最佳服饰竞赛。展台设在 Room B (学校正门入口旁边的大房间). 请将手工作品于10 月26日早交到Room B 展台,放学时取走,名次会在下一周的Newsletter 上公布.手工作品包括但不限于:万圣节主题的绘画,南瓜雕刻,南瓜上作画,万圣节主题的折纸等等

2014 Magical Halloween Parade

The most magical holiday – Halloween- is coming.

1. HXGNY is going to host annual Halloween parade on 10/26. To make the festival your children’s best memory, we will host Halloween Parade! We encourage parents to dress in costume! Each class of Pre K to third grade students will parade as a group. Parents of these grades please dress your children in costumes. Students
from fourth grade and up can participate individually if interested.

The parade will begin at 11:15 am. Please send your children to school in costume. Parents with young children please help the teacher and class starting at 11:05 AM to get ready for the parade. The parade will start right outside the H room on the first floor, follow the hallway, a Halloween photo-opp where you can take pictures, go through the courtyard, re-enter the building. Every participant will receive a goody bag filled with candy. The parade will finish at the side entrance of the school, hallway between A and B building. At the end of the parade, Pre-K children parents can get the children home, K children will go back to the classrooms with teachers, and G1-G3 children will be released to the parents who will send them to culture classes.

2. We will have craft contest and best costume photo contest. Please send in your crafts in Cafeteria for display in the morning of 10/26 to B room (the one next to the main entrance of the school), you can take your crafts back after school. The winners will be announced on the following week’s newsletter.

上学期我校学生获得华夏总校中文辩论赛冠军。很多家长都很好奇想知道这些在美国出生长大的孩子是怎样把中文学得这么好？这周我们请辩论赛的总教练黄岳老师给大家分享: 怎样帮助孩子学好中文? 如何提高孩子学习中文的兴趣？黄岳老师有多年的教学经验, 她去年教的七年级HSK汉语水平考试成绩出色。黄岳老师在子女的中文教育上也很成功。欢迎大家踊跃参加讨论。

Education Seminar: American kids can become Champions in Chinese debate!

Our students in HXGNY won the 1st place Debate among HuaXia Chinese Schools last semester. Many parents are curious and want to know how these kids who were born in US can master Chinese so well? We invite our Chinese teacher Yue Huang who was a Head Coach of the debate team to share with us: how to help kids learn Chinese effectively? how to motivate kids to like Chinese? Teacher Huang has many years of experience in teaching Chinese. She taught 7th Graders last year and her students performed very well in HSK Chinese test. She has two kids whose Chinese are extraordinary. You are welcome to the discussion.

学校成功举行第一次消防撤退演习

10/19日，大纽约华夏中文学校成功举行了学校历史上的第一次消防疏散演练。此次演练，是根据学校董事会的要求，按照校委会的安排，由校安全团队实施。此次演练，学校董事会成员、校委会成员、校安全团队成员、老师、家长代表和其他家长一起，齐心合力，把全体学生安全有序地撤离到了指定的安全区域。此次演习的目的就是：一旦发生意外情况，老师和学生熟悉各自的撤离路线，安全撤离，降低损害。
如果家长们对此次演习有任何意见或建议，请及时反馈到学校。我们会根据反馈意见，及时改进我们的消防安全预案。通过这些，确保学校更有保障，孩子们的学习环境更加安全。

2014 HXGNY消防疏散演习 (fire drill)

总的原则: 生命第一, 安全至上。注重培训，预防为主。

1 本次消防疏散演习 (fire drill) 计划将于10/19/2014（星期天）以语言班级为单位按年级进行。Pre-k 至3年级在10：15-10：30am 进行，4年级以上在11：15-11：30am进行；

2 本次消防疏散演习 (fire drill) 按红、黄、蓝三条路线撤退。预先把所有的语言课班分到红、黄、蓝三个颜色组，分组结果会预先通知老师和家长代表。

3 每个班级会预先由学校指定一个安全员。当天安全员的颜色标志和该人所到达的班级的分组颜色一致。演习时，每班的家长代表应在教室，协助安全员和老师。演习时将由有红、黄、蓝三种标志颜色的安全员带领相同颜色的班进行撤退。红色的班按红色路线撤退，黄色的班按黄色路线撤退，蓝色的按蓝色路线撤退；

4 撤退路线预先由安全团队按红、黄、蓝三种颜色作出指示标志；

5 当日值班家长（parents on duty）在学生撤离时，守候在楼梯口，避免学生拥挤、摔倒。学生撤离后，阻止无关人员进入教室。当学生返回教室时，负责开门；

6 学生撤退到指定位置后，由老师清人数，确认无掉队学生后再返回原来教室；

7 文化课消防疏散演习 (fire drill) 计划另外进行。

2014第三届HXGNY俱乐部杯网球公开赛圆满结束

第三届HXGNY俱乐部杯网球公开赛于上周日圆满结束。经过小组赛和淘汰赛激烈争夺，Huagang Li最后获得男子公开赛冠军，Litong Du第二名， Long Su和Bo Yang并列第三名。女子比赛Lu Marino夺得第一，Allison Liu作为第一个参赛的学生选手屈居亚军，Rachel Liu和 Mei Lau获得第三名。在此祝贺获胜选手并感谢学校体育俱乐部和各位参赛选手对本届比赛的大力支持. 比赛图片

2014 3rd HXGNY Club Cup Tennis Open Tournament, A Great Success

The 3rd HXGNY Club Cup Tennis Open Tournament finished successfully last Sunday. After several rounds of competitions, Huagang Li won the Men’s Singles Championship. Men’s 2nd and 3rd place players are Litong Du and Long Su, Bo Yang. Competition of Women’s Singles was intense, Lu Marino won the battle and claimed the title. Allison Liu is the first student who reached the finals, she is the runner-up. Rachel Liu and Mei Lau are both semifinalists. Congratulations to above players! 培育高情商，高逆境商的孩子

上周日我们荣幸请到普林斯顿的廖冰博士来给大家分享如何培养孩子的情商、逆境商。华人家庭普遍重视孩子的学业，但不少家长却`忽视了孩子们成长过程中更重要的情商和面对挫折失败的逆境商，以致最近接二连三出现华人孩子在名校自杀事件，令人痛心。廖冰博士结合自己多年的教书育人经验以及自己家庭、孩子的成长经历，讨论了如何帮助孩子了解自己的情绪? 怎样控制自己的情绪？怎样有热情地实现有意义的目标？如何了解别人的情绪？教育孩子换位思考：要想别人怎么对待你，你也应该怎么对待别人。她建议父母成为孩子的好朋友，了解孩子所处的环境，推荐几本好书及录像供家长参阅。每个孩子都是上天赐给父母的宝贝，都是独特的，不要跟别人的孩子攀比。愿我们的孩子们都能够身、心、灵健康成长。

Summary of parenting seminar on Oct 12, 2014
Last Sunday Dr. Bonnie Liao from Princeton came to share with us her experience on how to raise emotionally-intelligent children, and focus on their mental health besides academic achievements. How can we help our kids to be more emotional intelligent and resilient through effective communications? Dr. Liao shared with us about the good book from Daniel Golman <<Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ>>. Key points are summarized:
1. Know your emotion as it happens
2. Manage your emotion
3. Marshal your emotion to a meaningful goal, and apply your passion to an achievable goal.
4. Know others’ emotion: Golden Rule: treat others the way you want to be treated; Platinum Rule: treat others the way they want to be treated.
5. Manage other people’s emotion

WACA offer OSLCS AWARD

WACA (the Westchester Association of Chinese Americans) has offered the OSLCS (Outstanding Student Leadership and Community Service) Award to Chinese American students in the Westchester area since 2009. With enthusiastic participation from all local Chinese schools, the award program has served its mission and purpose very successfully. Every year for the past five years, three outstanding students have been selected as recipients of the award; these students have gone on to elite universities.

All current high school senior students who have enrolled in Chinese school can apply. 最近名牌大学里发生了数起优秀亚裔学生自杀事件。，廖博士要与家长们一起探讨如何通过言传身教，有效地提高孩子的情商，和应对挫折，摆脱忧郁症，并超越困难的能力。她还会和大家介绍创建12年的“英华在北京”的夏令营和回答家长们的问题。

讲员简介：
廖冰博士: 2007年5月，创建非营利英华国际学校，全美最先融合中英双语与国际化探究式教育相结合的小学；自2002年5月创建非营利英华语言学校以来，担任校长十年并运用与推广《马立平中文》；自2004年创建非营利“英华在北京”语言与领导能力暑期学院以来，每年亲自带领美国青少年在北京学习并为贫困学生服务；自2012年创建非营利英华普林斯顿语言与领导能力学院以来，带领来到美国的非英语母语青少年学习与实践并进行野外生存训练；自2004年，担任新州父母子女教育俱乐部总顾问，为华人父母提供一个学习和讨论的平台，不断提高个人和子女情商，开发智商，增进和子女的交流。2000年罗格斯大学工商管理硕士；1991年休斯顿大学物理博士；1984年北京大学物理学士。2007年从美林证券公司辞职，致力于教授数学及创建非营利学校。目前，在美银美林工作。

Raise emotionally-intelligent children, and focus on their mental health
As parents, we know that emotional intelligence is very important for children’s well-being. How can we help our kids to be more emotional intelligent and resilient through effective communications? Dr. Bonnie Liao will share with us her experience on this Sunday’s seminar. She will also discuss kids’ mental health issue including stress, depression and the recent incidents of suicide at some top universities. At the end of the seminar, she will also answer questions about the “YingHua in Beijing” 2015 Language & Leadership Summer Institute.

消防演练 (10/19) Fire Drill

大纽约华夏中文学校将于10/19日上午10：15-10：30（pre-k-3年级）和11：15-11：30（4年级以上）举行消防演练。具体作法是以语言课班级为单位，在每个班放置一位安全成员或其他指定人员，由该位人员把班内的老师和同学们经过预定的逃生路线带到预定的安全地点，清点人数后再带回教室。文化课的同学不另外安排，但每个文化课的老师会由一位安全成员带领他们把预定的疏散路线（evacuation route) 和预定的安全地点走一次。具体时间另外通知。

上周日学校秋季野餐聚会回顾 Fall Picnic Recap

上周日，HXGNY在哈德逊河畔的Croton Point Park成功的举办了秋季野餐会。在学校管理团队成员和众多志愿者的精心组织和配合下，超过500人参加了聚会。野餐期间穿插了学生们的表演，而且有很多的娱乐活动，家长和孩子们都享受了秋高气爽的午后闲暇时光。请大家点击链接欣赏照片。（由林骏和 Vincent Zhang 提供）

Last Sunday, the Fall Picnic was holden at Croton Point Park. Thanks to all the administrative team members and volunteers from the school, over 500 people attended the picnic. There were performances and many kids activities. Everyone had a wonderful afternoon with families and friends by the scenic Hudson River.

OCA – WHV Student Leadership Award – Deadline Extended to 10/10

OCA-WHV (Organization of Chinese American-Westchester Hudson Valley) will be sponsoring its 2014 Student Leadership Award. The award intends to honor outstanding high school students who have demonstrated meaningful involvement in serving the Asian American community and/or enthusiasm in learning Asian cultures, and who have a proven record in academic excellence and leadership in making a difference in their community. All high school students currently in their junior and senior years and who are currently attending high schools in the Westchester and Hudson Valley region can apply for the award.
