HXGNY Principal Search Process Starts

The board has recently established a search committee to start the 2014 Principal search process. The committee members include Dapeng Hu, Li Lin, Jun Lin, Michael Wu, Mark Yin and Ching Zhou. The search committee is to identify and nominate potential candidates, confirm candidates’ acceptance of the nomination, review candidates’ materials, conduct interview and check references as necessary, and recommend qualified candidates to the Board. The board will review candidates and vote to select the Principal.

The Principal is a volunteer position. Below are the eligibility requirements and desired qualification:

Must have integrity and be willing to voluntarily serve the school with passion and enthusiasm
Must be committed to the long-term growth and development of HXGNY
People with at least one year working experience with HXGNY admin team and with proven leadership skills are strongly preferred.

To apply, please email your name, qualification and a statement of plans and ideas on how to run the school to the board hxgnyboard@googlegroups.com, before March 29th.We also welcome any applications and nominations for other positions in the school’s admin team.

Parent-Teacher Conference this Sunday

We will have our third parent teacher conference (PTC) this Sunday.
Pre-K, K, and CSL will have the meeting in your classrooms using a portion of the class time. Please pay attention to the announcements from your teachers for the time slot.
Other classes will have PTC in the student cafeteria (where the seminars are held) or the faculty cafeteria.

Classroom Changes

Starting this week (03/16/2014), classes using C111 and C107 will be relocated to G102 (Magic Sr., MZHY 5) and G103 (SAT Math, MLP G4-2), respectively.

Important Note and Notice

1. No soliciting is allowed on the White Plains High School campus as per school policy. For security reasons, please inform the Admin immediately if you see any violation or unauthorized personnel on campus. Please use the designated rest areas during school hours.

2. HXGNY Admin team would like to remind all parents, students and teachers to follow White Plains High School classroom rules. It’s imperative to leave the classroom the way it was. Parents please inform your child/children:

Placing stickers on Smartboards, monitors, or any other place in a classroom is NOT permitted.
No writing on Smartboards at all!
No one is allowed to be in a teacher’s desk area or filing cabinet..Teachers, please pay special attention to teachers’ corner to be sure you left everything the way they were.

3. Lost and Found box is in the H-Room besides the information desk. Please drop by if you have lost items to claim.

2014年“中国寻根之旅”海外华裔青少年夏令营
上海夏令营

主办单位：国务院侨务办公室上海市政府侨务办公室
活动时间：2014年7月01日—15日（7月01日报到，7月15日离开）
营员要求：2002年12月31日前出生，身体健康，有一定中文基础且有较强生活自理能力的海外华裔青少年。

中华舞魂主题营：喜爱舞蹈，有一定的舞蹈基础，将参加专业舞蹈训练，跳舞鞋自备。
中华武魂主题营：喜爱中华武术，有较强的运动细胞，将参加专业武术训练，运动鞋自备。

关于费用：
1、每位营员需缴纳1500元人民币，含住宿、用餐、交通、门票、学习、交流、旅游意外保险等，不足部份由主办方承担。
2、领队免交以上费用。
3、营员的国际旅费、医疗费、个人费用自理。
4、费用以人民币结算。

活动须知：
1、为保障安全，夏令营期间营员及领队的食宿、交通、参观、游览等活动均由主办方统一安排（2-3人一间，有空调、卫生、热水洗浴等设施，24小时卫生保健老师值班）。
2、主办方将免费提供统一制作的营服、营旗等，活动期间营员应自觉按要求着装和佩带胸牌。
3、上海侨办提供每团一次接送机安排。
4、所有参加夏令营的营员及其监护人、领队都须签订“家长同意书”、“营员须知”、“领队须知”，报到时由领队统一交主办方留存。
5、家长不参加夏令营活动，但欢迎观摩上海的闭营式活动。

2014年“中国寻根之旅”海外华裔青少年夏令营
汉唐文化行——陕西夏令营

为进一步增进海外华裔青少年对中国的了解，促进海内外青少年的沟通交流，弘扬中华文化，陕西省人民政府侨务办公室将于2014年7月组织集文化性、知识性、趣味性于一体的夏令营活动，邀请世界各地的华裔青少年寻根中国，相约西安。陕西营依托陕西历史悠久、文化底蕴深厚的特点，突出周秦汉唐文化、寻根文化、绿色山水文化、陕西民俗文化，以及高新科技产业密集的特色，通过讲座、参观、体验、观摩、交流等多种形式，游教结合，寓教于乐，使海外华裔青少年对中华文化有较为系统的认识，对陕西有较为全面立体的感受，以此促进海外华裔青少年更好地学习汉语，传承中华文化。

Education Seminar – 教育升学讲座
一个家庭辅助两个女儿进入哈佛的故事

我校将于3月9日（星期天）举办家庭教育及升学规划讲座，特别邀请家庭教育专著《哈佛两姐妹—素质教育与智力开发家庭教育全记录》的作者汪小武博士和胡琳夫妇分享家庭敎育和大学升学的经验。汪小武、胡琳夫妇在中国长大，在美国有近30年的生活经历，亲身体会了中美两国敎育体制、方法和理念的差异。在以中美文化的精华培养孩子的理念下，他们充分发挥自己的优势，利用两种文化的特点，汲取两种文化的精华，开发出了一套切实可行的家庭敎育措施。这套措施在他们培养两个女儿的过程中得到了反覆的验证，并且在其它家庭的孩子身上也得到印证。讲座将介绍他们培养孩子从幼儿到高中的全过程，详细地分析他们家庭教育的七项主要措施。讲座同时将剖析美国大学录取学生的现状，从而理出针对孩子特点的高中规划的目标和要点，包涵高中选课的学问和如何为孩子创造出学习和活动中的亮点。还专为华人子弟如何突出提出一些具体可行的参考建议。

Education Seminar – 教育规划和退休规划讲座

PLAN EARLY SAVE SMART

When: Sunday 03/02 9:45AM – 11:45AM
Where: Cafeteria

This seminar aims to educate parents on education expenses and the financial aid process. It will also touch on different ways to save money in retirement accounts.

It will cover:

Benefits and pitfalls of popular college savings vehicles
What you should know about financial aid calculations
How to appropriately and legally shield your assets so your child gets the biggest slice of the financial aid pie they are entitled to
What you need to consider to set up your retirement accounts
How to balance your retirement funding

Where can you find a retirement vehicle that:

yields a high return?
has little or no risk?
has good timing?

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Nancy and George Lu are licensed independent financial professionals with almost a decade of experience working with over 200 top financial companies. Together with their team, they have helped hundreds of families/individuals plan for their retirement. Nancy was also featured in the November 2012 issue of FORBES magazine for her work.

Lego Robotics Jr. Class Starts This Sunday

Lego Robotics Jr. Class is going to start this Sunday. The class will build more complex models than the fall semester. Full description is attached below. The class will have 12 lessons, at $20 each lesson, or $240 total. Interested students should send an email to registration@hxgny.org to register before Sunday or drop by the information deck in the h-room between 9:30-10:00 this Sunday to completed on-site registration.

WeDo Robots – Machines

Junior Technology Class – 11:30am to 12:30am Ages 6 to 8/Grade 1 to 3
(This class consists of more complex build than the pervious Robotic Jr class)

Our activities provide the opportunity for students to work together to build more complex models with working motors and sensors. These models include boats, airplanes, ferris wheel, race car, merry-go-round, crane etc. This class takes the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering Mathematics) concept to the next level, extending the possibilities for creative problem-solving challenges and literacy connections.

*Students will not take the robots home. The robots can be purchased from Lego.

2. Adult Culture Class Onsite Registration Open
We will offer onsite registration for adult culture class this Sunday in the H-Room by the information desk between 9:30-10:00 am. If you want more information about classes we offer, or plan to take a class, please drop by the Information Desk and we will assist you in completing the registration process.

Please note this Sunday is the last day for adult class registration. After that there will be $20 late fee. If there are less than 7 registered students by Sunday, it will be subject to cancellation per Admin’s discretion.

Recap Education Seminar – Raising a Self-Motivated Child

Last Sunday we had a great turn out for Dr. Caffrey’s education seminar – Raise a self motivated child. Here are some highlights from the seminar:

Increasing Risks and Encouraging Accomplishment to Build Confidence
Decreasing Comfort and Scheduling to Build Flexibility and Resiliency
Delaying Gratification and Decreasing Rewards to Build Patience and Work Ethic
Using Positive Peer Pressure to Build Motivation

There were a lot discussion and interaction during the seminar. A lot of parents stayed after the seminar to ask questions. Dr. Caffrey is very kind to offer our parents her email here:

A parent lost a girl’s coat in rose red color. It was put on a chair in the second row on the left facing the stage during the New Year Gala performance. Another parent left a white paper bag with some kids’ costumes and 4 Rainbow belts in the front row during the New Year Gala. If you found it, please turn it to the information desk at the H-room.
