Recap – HXGNY Mid-Autumn Festival Party

上周日，学校在Croton Point State Park成功举办了中秋节聚会。天公作美，新朋旧友，济济一堂，共庆佳节。我们的志愿者花费了大量的时间精力，精心准备了400余人参加的烧烤活动。期间穿插了各班级组织的学生表演，并且组织了很多娱乐活动，如拔河，脸绘等等。整个下午的安排精彩纷呈，家长和孩子们尽情享受秋高气爽的午后闲暇时光。让我们感谢所有志愿者所做出的努力，让我们共同祝愿年年有今日，岁岁有今朝。请大家点击链接欣赏照片。

Parking Lot Update and Security Announcement

Parking Lot – Per WPHS request, please use Parking lot A only this Sunday due to high school’s upcoming Columbus Festival.Direction to Parking Lot A: use the White Plains High School entrance at Bryant Ave, follow the “Student Parking” sign to the West/Main parking lot. An entrance to the building will be provided close to Lot A. This entrance will continue to be open between 9:20 and 9:50 AM for the rest of school year.

For your safety, security team would like to remind all parents:

Do not drop off your kid(s) close to the North Street entrance
Do not block traffic
Pay attention to pedestrians

Registration and School Policy Reminder

This Sunday is our 4th week of school. According to school policy, there will be no more class transfers. Kids are not allowed to attend the class if you have not cleared the tuition payment. Please attend the class which students are officially assigned to.

We would like to remind you again that parents are not allowed to sit-in classrooms unless you are parent-on-duty.

2013 HXGNY Young Singer Contest

音乐是灵动的语言，每一位父母都希望孩子们的童年有歌声相伴，让歌声为孩子开创更丰富，更有感染力的生命开端。为培养孩子们的艺术素养，提升自信和舞台表现力，大纽约华夏中文学校将于10月20日13:00－15:00 举办“快乐童年，唱响未来”小歌手比赛。如果您的孩子有兴趣参赛，请填妥报名表格，交到学校咨询台或以电子邮件方式发送到赵鹭 lu.marino@gmail.com, 注明为“小歌手比赛”。10月13日18:00报名截止。

Music is a language of the soul. It is every parent’s hope to fill children’s life with love and harmony, to let music reverberate in their childhood. To promote students’ self awareness, artistic and stage performance skills, Huaxia Chinese School at Greater New York will host the 2012 HXGNY Young Singer Competition on 10/20 between 1:00 to 3:00 pm. 2013 HuaXia Chinese School Mind Sports Games

The 2013 HuaXia Chinese School Mind Sports Games will be held at Bridgewater School, NJ on Oct 20. The game is open to all HuaXia Chinese school students and parents, and the registration will be closed by Oct 10 afternoon. Community News: WACA Outstanding Student Award 2013-2014 School Year‏

WACA has offered the OSLCS Award to Chinese American students in the Westchester area since 2009. With enthusiastic participation from all local Chinese schools, the award program has served its mission and purpose very successfully. Last year three outstanding students were selected as recipients of the award.

Please find attached two documents, “WACA OSLCS Award Program” and “WACA OSLCS Award Application Form,” which help explain the program’s purpose and procedures in more detail. The deadline for nomination of your school students is October 12, 2013.

I want to thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this matter. Besides Chinese New Year celebration and other traditional holiday observances, OSLCS Award Program is another core service offered by WACA to the Westchester community. We appreciate your active participation and support. By working together we can prepare our students for the future and make our community a better place to live in.

Parent-Teacher Conference This Sunday

Parent-teacher conference is one of the most important opportunities for you to meet with your child’s teacher and to know what is happening in the classroom. Please make every effort to attend.
With the fast growing number of new families coming to our school, all available classrooms are used for language or culture classes . While the conference for Pre-K, K and CLS classes can still be held in your own classrooms, for grade 1 to grade 9, the conference will be held in H-room or Cafeteria this year. 九月十五日，华夏中文学校大纽约分校召开了2013-2-14学年全校家长大会。在会上，学校校长林骏、董事会主席胡大鹏、教务长徐俊、副校长曹作军及各学校部门管理成员向家长们全面介绍了学校情况，内容包括董事会，顾问委员会，及校委会成员，学校教育战略规划，注册进展回顾，语言文化课程简介，教师团队建设，学年主要文体活动安排，校园安全和家长值日，学校新闻周报和网站简介，华夏大纽约的志愿者精神。2013-2014年将是华夏大纽约繁荣发展的一年，学校影响力和规模迅速扩大，注册学生人数已超过450人，学校管理团队感谢家长们的支持，将尽全力不断提高学校教学质量、增进社区中心功能。学校是一个非盈利组织，所有管理团队成员都是志愿者。全民办校的志愿者精神是学校永续发展的动力源泉，希望大家积极参与，尊重志愿者，也希望更多的新家长加入到建设华夏的努力中，为社区、为下一代打造出日新月异的华夏大纽约。活动照片请点击这里。On 09/15, HXGNY had its all parent meeting of the new school year. On the meeting, Pricipal Jun Lin, school board chair Mr. Dapeng Hu, Dean Jun Xu, Vice Principal Zuojun Cao and other school leaders made comprehensive presentations to the school. Topics include new year mission of school board, strategic initiatives and plan of school education, registration status briefing, language and culture class offering, teaching staff building, school activity schedule, campus safety and parent of duty, newsletter and web site overview, HXGNY volunteer spirit. With student enrollment surpassing 450, HXGNY is embracing a prosperous new school year. The school administration team is fully committed to build on this campus an outstanding education center and harmonious community center. The school is a non-for-profit organization and is run by voluntees. As always, the administration team thanks all families for their support, asks parents to participate and respect teachers and all volunteers, and welcomes more parents to join our effort to build a greater school. Recap – Teacher Training

Another session of teacher training was held last Sunday (9/15/13). Teachers familiarized themselves with the registration system to manage their own classes and the school website to join forum discussions to exchange teaching ideas. Two teachers (Erhan Ma and Bing Li) shared their teaching experiences – engaging students, age appropriate teaching methods, and professional dedication. Parking Lot And Note to Parents

With the joining of many new families, we are running out of parking space close to the main entrance quickly. The administration team worked on this issue and now the west parking lot is added. School staff will open the entrance facing the west parking lot between 9:20 to 9:50 AM for your convenience. Other time please keep this entrance closed for safety issue. Parents are encouraged to use this big parking lot.由于学生人数增加，原有停车场不够用。请大家使用学校西面的大停车场。早上9:20 到 9:50 有管理人员开专用进口，方便大家从C翼进入教室。Please be noted that no parents are allowed to stay in classroom during teaching time. Last weeks we were reported by several teachers that some parents were insisted to stay in the classroom or hallway during the whole time. This is a distraction to teacher and students. It severely impacts teacher’s normal activities.

For parents who need to transfer or withdraw classes, please do it on-line. Use the “申请退转课” on top right corner in our registration system (see picture below). The registration team will get back to you in one or two days.

The award intends to honor outstanding high school students who have demonstrated meaningful involvement in serving the Asian American community and/or enthusiasm in learning Asian cultures, and who have a proven record in academic excellence and leadership in making a difference in their community.The award is open to all high school students in their junior and senior years. All-Parent Meeting This Sunday

Principal Jun Lin and Executive Vice Principal Zuojun Cao will host the first All-parent meeting this Sunday 09/15/2013 10:00 am-11:40 am at Auditorium. They will introduce Board and Administration team members, update parents on status of our school operations, and share their vision on education reform, faculty development and much more. Please come, listen and share.

Class parents will have a meeting at the auditorium right after the all-parent meeting at 11:40 am.

Recap: First Day of School

新学年迎来了开门红。开学第一天，华夏大纽约迎来了众多新、老同学和家长们。教师们以饱满的热情开始了新学年的第一课。在广大志愿者和家长的共同努力下，各项工作有条不紊地展开；同学们迅速适应了新环境，捧着散发油墨清香的书本，开始了学习中文的新旅程。在宽敞明亮的休息区，在体育馆里、运动场上，到处洋溢着欢声笑语和喜悦气氛。我们为学校的不断壮大感到由衷的喜悦，为属于这个团结向上的华人社区而自豪。

Registration Announcement

A registration desk will be setup again this Sunday in cafeteria to help parents register onsite. Afterwards, new registration/transfer will be accepted only via email (registration@hxgny.org) until the end of September.
Starting from 09/15, unpaid students for language classes need to have the payment status cleared before attending classes.
Fees for certain cultural classes will be collected on Week 3 (Sunday 09/22). Registration team will communicate with parents via email about method of payment.

Special Announcement for Culture Class

领导才能俱乐部和辩论俱乐部将合并。领导力俱乐部是为高年级同学设计，锻炼学生组织活动的能力，为学生领导俱乐部做准备。由于今年报名学生年级偏低，本俱乐部活动和辩论俱乐部合并。辩论俱乐部使用华夏总校自2005年来的辩论题目，培养学生的语言能力和思辨能力，为华夏年度辩论赛培养人才。欢迎希望提高语言表达能力的同学特别是四到六年级的同学参加。

HXGNY Mid-Autumn Festival Party

Dear HXGNY families, you are all cordially invited to the Mid-Autumn Festival party on September 22, at Croton Point Park from 12:30 PM to 4 PM. We will provide lunch, drink plus moon cakes for everyone.

The Croton Point park has a big pavilion with tables (rain or shine, it is a perfect location). There are some performances, lots of fun activities for the kids, as well as playground close by. Please bring blankets to sit on during picnic. It will be a great opportunity to meet new friends and catch up with old friends, relax and enjoy the afternoon.

Tickets:
Please purchase actual event/lunch tickets in the White Plain High School cafeteria on Sunday 9/15/13, between 9:30AM till 12:30PM. Or you can purchase ticket online at http://www.hxgny.org/wp/archives/2746.
Please print out a copy of your online purchase receipt to school to exchange for lunch ticket and the BBQ.
The price of the tickets will cover the reservation fees for the park and parking fees, as well as all the food and drinks for everyone. We will prepare sufficient food and drinks for everyone based on the actual tickets sale.
If you purchase the tickets before 9/16, the prices are $8 for adults and seniors, $5 for kid 5 and above, and kids age 0-4 are free.
If you purchase the tickets on 9/22 (the day of the event), the prices will be $10 per adult ticket.

The badminton and basketball teams play in the gym at the lower level in the back of C Wing. A fee will be charged for using the gym. The soccer team usually plays outside behind the building. The tennis courts are down the stairs at the end of the road in front of the main entrance to the building. All parents are welcome to join our sports teams. 2013 2nd HXGNY Club Cup Tennis Open Tournament

HXGNY Tennis Club will host the 2nd HXGNY Club Cup Tennis Open Tournament starting on October 6th, 2013 at White Plains High School. The tournament features Men and Women’s singles. Regular matches and play-offs will be played on Oct 6th and Oct 13th, the finals will be on Oct 20th. The registration is open now and will be closed on Oct 3rd. 新学期，新希望，共创新辉煌

亲爱的各位家长:

转眼我们又到了新的学年，华夏中文学校大纽约分校也迎来了她的周岁纪念日。在过去一年里我们从无到有，共同创建了本地区最大的中文学校。华夏大纽约承继了华夏十几年的办学经验和传统，但处处更洋溢着新生代的蓬勃朝气。新学年伊始，我们更上一层楼，到目前为止，注册少儿学生比上一学年已增加了百分之三十。我们校委会、董事会，感谢所有华夏家长对我们的信任，并在此致以新学年的问候。

学校规模的迅速扩大伴随着发展的新机遇，也带来了管理上的新要求。在新学年里，我们将着力于以下几个方面：

1. 完善以美洲华语，马立平课本为骨架，以标准中文等教材为辅助的多选择体系，我们将在已开通的美洲华语一至九年级，马立平一至七年级的基础上，进一步强化不同年级不同教材之间的衔接，于各种教材间取长补短。

2. 进一步发展教学评估体系，通过定量分析，不断完善课程设置，探讨教材教法，为全方位确保孩子学习进展打下基础。并通过教师培训等方法，不断提高教学质量。

3. 根据家长意向和学校办学条件，增补改进文化课设置，提高学生综合素质。今年我们开设了多门新课程，同时将尝试增设多个课后俱乐部，为学生提供更多的学习机会。

4. 开展各项文体活动，建设华夏大家庭。我们已经制定了新一年的文体活动计划，活跃家长们的周末生活，增进华夏大纽约作为当地华人社区中心的功能，同时寓教于乐，让孩子们在各种活动中使用中文，领略中华文化。

5. 持续建设学校志愿者管理团队。我们继改组学校管理架构后，将不断努力提高学校管理的专业化，制度化，建立完整校规，同时弘扬华夏志愿者传统，为学校管理团队稳定持续的发展打下基础。

6. 走出校门，走向社区，我们加强与各团体、教育机构联系，为社区服务。在暑假里，我们成功举办了中国侨办海外华文教育名师巡讲团纽约地区的培训活动。我们还将扩大这方面的工作。

四百四十个少儿学生，三百一十个华夏家庭，为了中华文化的传承，为了华人社区的建设，我们将在新的一年里相聚于华夏大纽约。“天行健，君子以自强不息，地势坤，君子以厚德载物 ” ，在所有家长、老师、管理团队的不懈努力下，在华人社会尊师重道传统的引导下，在华夏志愿者精神的鼓舞下，华夏大纽约必将在新学年里再创辉煌！

Important Information for First Day of School on 09/08/2013

Campus Location:
学校地址在White Plains High School，550 North Street, White Plains, NY 10605。我校师生可专用B楼侧门进出，从路口转入校园即可看到。HXGNY将使用B楼的全部教室和C楼的部分教室，各楼之间均由室内通道连接。进门后，家长可直达作为休息区的Cafeteria和宽敞明亮的Ｈ-Room. B楼教室环绕Ｈ-Room，分处一楼和二楼。从一楼经回廊，可到达C楼的教室。(See Maps: school layout map, school floor map)开学第一天，您可以在设于Cafeteria的注册台办理交费等事宜。现场缴费的家长，凭收据领取孩子的教材。事先缴费的孩子可直接去所在的教室，由各班家长代表直接领取教材发放。学校办公室设在H-Room. 请教师、助教和值班家长在签到台签到。您有疑问，可以在进口处的咨询台、Cafeteria的注册台，以及H-Room的办公室得到解答。

Textbook Distribution Procedures:
Students with their tuition check received can get the textbooks in class. The class parent will deliver the books directly.

If you decide to pay tuition on the 1st day of school, you need to go to the registration desk (Cafeteria) first to pay and get a permission slip before you can go to the textbook distribution desk for your children’s textbook. Please come to school 15 minutes earlier to avoid unnecessary delay on the 1st day of school.

Special Announcement for Some Culture Classes

This year, our number of registered students have surpassed 400. The fast expansion of the school also gives us an opportunity to recruit more highly experienced and dedicated teachers to our faculty staff.
To better service our parents and students, we hired some professional teachers from outside vendors for the following classes: Magic Jr/Sr Class, English Writing/Reading, Latin Dance Sr. and Chess Jr./Sr. Class. Due to the fee increase, we will charge each student $100 extra fee for the above classes. As we have limited spots for the above mentioned culture classes, please register as soon as you can. New Culture Class Open for Registration

Advanced Painting (Acrylic/Oil) for G4+ and Adult / 高级绘画班（丙烯画、油画）
Time: 9:30-10:30
Extra Cost: $100 to cover materials for entire school year (paper, cloth, oil, brush, etc).
Teacher: Aihua Shea, a professional artist with over 15 years of teaching experience in the greater New York area. Currently teaching Cartoon Drawing Jr. 卡通漫画 and Chinese Brush Painting for Adults 成人国画课.

孩子是天生的画家，他们对色彩特别敏感，鲜艳的颜色会引发他们对绘画的兴趣，激起他们对绘画的渴望。所以在孩子学习绘画时，应该让他们接触彩色，大胆地使用颜色，用色彩来造型，画些他们想要画的东西，让儿童的想象力通过色彩充分地发挥和表达。在任课老师的指导下，由浅入深引导，使他们能在绘画过程中更加热爱生活、大自然，并从中得到美的享受。本课程向四年级以上学生开放，也欢迎成人学员参加。所有画具和颜料将由学校统一安排、保管，以保证每次上课的授课时间。

教课内容：
第一，色彩的认识。（1）认识三原色；（2）颜色的调配，“间色”和“复色”；（3）冷色、暖色和对比色。
第二，色彩练习。（1）笔触的运用。简单的图案练习，用三种色到八种色作画，课堂提供现场绘画教材；（2）色彩层次的变化。同类色渐变的运用，分出层次、深浅，变化柔和。
第三，绘画素材。动物，食物，日常用具等等。在完成课堂要求的前提下，学生们也可以自由发挥自己的想象。
